WHO WE ARE
Our Mission
At C.A.M.P. (Camp Alumni Membership Program) San Francisco, our mission is to instill enduring values in youth through educational summer camp experiences. Founded in 1984 by dedicated educators George Lai and Wilmer Fong, we are committed to fostering personal growth, leadership, and community among boys and girls, regardless of their financial circumstances. Our programs emphasize education, compassion, care, and the development of skills that empower young individuals to become model citizens, embodying values that resonate throughout the year and beyond.
Our History
The Camp Alumni Membership Program (C.A.M.P.) was founded in 1984 as a non-profit organization that raised funds and donated equipment to summer camping programs serving youth in San Francisco. In the early 1990’s, our co-founders George Lai and Wilmer Fong noticed that the fees various organizations were charging participants were rapidly increasing and soon became too expensive for underserved youth in several San Francisco communities. In 1994, George and Wilmer recognized the need for summer camps that welcomed all youth, regardless of financial circumstances, and they began sponsoring independent camping programs under C.A.M.P. The primary mission of the camps is to provide an educational outdoor experience whereby youth of all ages and socio-economic backgrounds can connect with nature, cultivate essential life and leadership skills, build social confidence, and form lifelong friendships.
For over 30 years, C.A.M.P. has continued with this mission by sponsoring three summer programs: Boys Camp at Camp Oljato, Girls Camp at Redwood Glen, and a High Sierra Backpacking Adventure in Yosemite. Each of these programs are dedicated to teaching skills, fostering values, and inspiring youth to become compassionate, responsible citizens.
